Voter Verification
Even if you are eligible and registered, the information on your voter registration must be kept up to date. Did you move? Get married or divorced and change your name? These life changes also require voter registration changes. So before the voter registration deadlines, take a moment to verify the information on your current registration is still accurate. Here’s how.
Check/verify your registration.
Go to Vote411.org (select Verify Voter Registration>SC). Complete all the requested information including the last four of your SSN, and confirm your name and current address are up to date. The name on your voter registration card must match the name on your photo ID.
Acceptable forms of ID
There are five valid forms of photo ID: A South Carolina Driver’s License, a DMV ID card including a state concealed weapons permit, a military ID card including all Defense Dept. photo IDs and veterans benefit cards, an SC voter registration card with a photo, or a US Passport or passport ID card. All forms of ID must be current.
If you don’t have a photo ID, you can get a DMV ID card at any DMV office. You will need to complete an application (you can download and complete offline) and provide proof of your identity, including your Social Security card, birth certificate, proof of address, and proof of any legal name changes. If you are a registered voter, you can get a voter registration photo ID card at the county election office.
To update your voter registration
The name on your voter registration must match the name on your photo ID and your Social Security card. Submit a new voter registration form online to update your name. Online voter registration requires your SC Driver’s License, which must match the name you are registering to vote with.
How to update your name or address with DMV.
If you have moved within the same county, you can update your voter registration at the elections office. If you’ve moved to a new county, you must re-register with your updated driver’s license or DMV ID card. You can do that online or at the county elections office.
