Greenville needs you working the polls

It takes 2,000 of us - mostly temporary employees - to run a general election. Fewer poll workers can mean consolidated polling places, longer lines and waiting times, or understaffed precincts. All of those consequences make it harder to manage elections and present a potential barrier for voters.

Poll managers (or workers) are employees of the Election Commission.

  • Must be registered to vote in South Carolina

Poll watchers are appointed by candidates or political parties to be observers of the election. This is something the League of Women Voters, in conjunction with other organizations, supports

Poll watchers must:

  • Be registered voters in the county.

  • Present the poll manager with a signed letter by the candidate or the appropriate Party official stating that he/she is certified to act as a watcher in that precinct.

  • Wear a badge specifying the name of the candidate or party he/she represents.

Poll watchers are not permitted to interact with voters in any way.
